How Did I Get Interested In Graphic Design?

Hey, hey! I’m so excited to be posting again after such a long break. I truly hope I will be able to keep up with a better posting schedule. 🙂

In today’s post I want to talk about what inspired me to begin exploring graphic design and how I got started. After learning the basics, I have been able to create a lot of fun stuff. It is a really fun hobby and can be an incredible way to make a little money if you get good at it too!

Also, I though it would be fun to share some of my designs starting from the first ever design I made and then a couple throughout the gallery up till now. It’s kind of funny to see how much I’ve changed and grown over my time learning and I look forward to seeing where else I can improve for the future. Okay, let’s get started!

My Little Story:

About two and half years ago, I signed up for Canva, a free graphic design program I had discovered online. I was SO EXCITED!!! I couldn’t wait to dive into the learning process and start creating my very own designs.

You see, before I even signed up for this program, I had been obsessed with printables of all kind; gorgeous, free, designs like wall art, checklists, planners, and calendars. I really enjoyed printing off all these cute resources from the internet and would then proceed to fill them up with my school routine, chore list, etc.

One of the first design I ever made. Wow! I was really going for a bright look here! 🙂

Now, this was great and all. I just loved having all these printables at my disposal. However, I began to ask myself the question, “How do all these awesome bloggers and designers make all these fun printables?” I wanted to be apart of the fun and create some of my own that were exactly what I needed!

Soon after, I was exploring everywhere to find out how I could make these printables for myself and become a creative maker myself. To be honest, I can’t remember how long or where I looked to find this information, but eventually, I came across one of my best friends in the design world: Canva.

(Haha! This post is not sponsored by Canva if you’re wondering. I just love the tool so much!)

One of the first times I created a “mockup” using a photo from Unsplash and putting my design on it. 🙂

Anyway, I discovered Canva, quickly signed up, and began my own creative journey in the world of graphic design. Many tutorials later, I was beginning to design some little projects for myself. There was a whole world of potential and so many buttons, sizes, and tools to use!

Now, I am still loving graphic design and printables. I’ve been able to create so many fun designs and continue to create today. Graphic design has been such a fun hobby and has also helped me in my blog and potential business ideas. I am still learning, growing, and loving every moment! I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my designs. 🙂

A more recent design I created at the library. (A line from a David Crowder song called How He Loves.) 🙂

I hope to share many more graphic design related posts and some of the projects I’ve created with you, but I thought this would be a fun post. Maybe this will inspire you to look into graphic design!

If you have any questions, are interested in graphic design, or you enjoyed this post, feel free to comment below! I love hearing from all of you.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Monday Motivation #5

Hello, there! Happy Monday to you all! Did you have a good weekend? Has the weather warmed up at all yet for you? I live in Ohio and I heard it’s supposed to warm up a bit later this week…we’ll see! 🙂

So, today is number 5 of the series and I can’t be more excited! I love making these for you all and I enjoy being inspired myself while I put them together.

I hope you enjoy today’s theme, which is all about TRUSTING. This can be pretty tough sometimes, but I’m here to remind you that God is right there next to you and has incredible plans for you. He’ll lead you where you need to be. Let’s let our worries fade and fix our eyes on Jesus shall we? Okay, here’s your dose of inspiration on this Monday morning. Enjoy!

Quote of the day:

I needed this.

Bible verse of the day:

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7-8

Hope you all have a great day!

Who Am I? Get To Know The Blogger Better

Hello again! It’s been a while since I have sat down to type up a post, so I thought, “What better time than to do a “‘get to know me better'” kind of post?”

It’s one thing to read a good post, discover a new tip, or get some inspiration from some random, cute blog, but it’s another to actually know a little bit about who’s typing up the posts you love. When you know the blogger, it makes reading the content even better.

Since this is so important, I’ve decided to sit down and share a post about myself. If you’d like, you are more than welcome to visit my about page here for some quick facts (I need to update them a little!) or just keep reading to learn more. Hope you enjoy!

Hello, there!

The Basics:

Hello again, my name is Nyah! I live in a family of seven: two sisters, two adorable orange and white striped cats, and my mom and dad.

I am a Christian and I love to share inspirational posts: Here is my first Monday Motivational if you’re interested!

I just love good quotes (which I find on Pinterest and save to this board,) and I also love music, organization, certain kinds of cleaning :), being creative, baking, cooking, menu planning, and get-togethers!

Going on two and a half years ago, my family and I moved near Columbus, Ohio and it was then, right after we moved here, that I first began to explore Graphic Design, Blogging, and!

I would be happy to avoid anything with fish, math, or lots of germs, but I am always up for strategy games, Hallmark, action, and comedy movies, spending time with friends and family, or working on another website or Canva project. 🙂

I’m 18 years old and will be graduating this year. I am currently deciding what I’d like to do after high school is over, but I’d love to teach at our co-op, am exploring job ideas, and am interested in teaching, business, and graphic design as possible degree options. We’ll see!

Haha! Me being silly. Everyone’s got a silly selfie, right?

My Hobbies:

I guess I already touched on some of these, but now I get a whole space dedicated for hobbies, so here goes!I absolutely love sewing up new zippy pouches! I have so many lying around the house filled with lip gloss or pens and even hidden under a stack of fabric. I love sewing, so whenever I meet a new piece of pretty fabric, I’m automatically thinking about how cute it would be on a zipper pouch, a pillow case, a pair of pajama shorts, or some other project. Yep, that me with the mile high stack of floral fabric at Joanne. 😉

Sewed this up not too long ago. It’s a cute little pouch for makeup, earbuds and notebook, tablet, etc.

Being in the kitchen cooking has been a hobby ever since I was little. I’m so blessed to have so many talented cooks in my family who taught and inspired me to be in the kitchen baking or cooking. I adore the Nestle chocolate chip cookie recipe, love finding quick bread recipes, and love chopping onions. The smell and warmth of the kitchen when food is cooking is honestly the best. Some days I’ll make mac n’ cheese over the stove in the middle of the day because I’m A. cold, B. I love pasta, or C. It smells so good. Maybe it’s all three.

Drawing is another hobby, however, I wan to save talking about that much because am planning to write a post about it and share lots of pictures of my character drawings which I love. So stay tuned for that post!

Some of character drawings!
A close-up of one of my characters. These are all original illustrations along with some of my favorite drawing tools! My goal is that these little characters will make you smile! 🙂

Graphic Design is next on the list. Oh, and as much as I could on with hobbies, I promise, this will be last one for now. Anyway, I am planning to write a post about how I got interested in Graphic Design, so I don’t want to go to detailed right now. However, I do wan to say that I really enjoy it! I’ve been able to use this hobby for my blog design and graphics, to create some wall art printables that I sold at a craft fair, and to create a Bible Journal for myself among many other things. I’ve considered selling some of my designs, teaching a beginner Canva class, or offering design services, but I haven’t decided on any of that yet.

I designed this quote printable with Canva! If you’re interested in downloading it, you’ll find the post here!
I used this grey sweater mockup from a printing company to put my “make it happen” quote design on. I would love to get some stuff printed!

Do I Have Any Nicknames?

  • Nyah Papaya. 🙂

Places You’ll Find Me:

  • Joanne, cute down towns, thrift shopping (I love Goodwill,) and the library. I LOVE going to the library! It’s kind of funny…I’m not big into reading but I do get books out on crafts, recipes, motivation, organizing, etc. I really love going to use the big computers and the quiet space.

Whew! That was kind of a long post! I had a lot of fun writing it though, and I hope you have a lot of fun reading it and getting to know me a little better!

If you enjoyed this post, have any questions, you share some similarities, or if there’s anything else, comment below and let me know! I look forward to hearing from you!

Have an amazing day everyone!

Monday Motivation #4

Hello, everyone! Happy Monday!

Y’all know the routine by now. It’s Monday, so time for the 4th Monday Motivation! Today I decided to pick a certain theme for the whole post. The theme is overcoming fear. It might be of trying something new (a business, a job, a new school, etc,) fear of something that could or is happening, etc. The inspiring quote, verse, photo, and song will all go along with the theme, so I hope this will be especially inspiring, uplifting, and motivational. Enjoy, friends!

Get Organized With This Online Tool

Hey, friends! Hope you are staying warm and having a great weekend! Happy New Year to you all!

Today I wanted to share with you a really neat (and FREE) resource that I came across a while back. It’s a tool called Trello, and you can check it out here.

To put it in short terms, Trello is a free, online to-do list, organizing tool, planner, checklist, collaborating tool, etc. There are a ton of ways to customize it, and it’s a great place to organize your thoughts, ideas, pics, business schedules, blog post lists, and more.

You can also invite certain members to your “boards,” which is super helpful if you’re working with others on business. Only you and your members will be able to access these boards and customize them.

You can also go the private route and have a personal page with all your boards. For example, my page is a “team” page, but I keep it private and only I can access and customize my boards.

To give you an idea of what kinds of stuff you can use it for, here are a couple boards I have right now.

  1. A list/catch-all of resources and tools I like to have for easy access or to remember.
  2. A School Schedule where I list times and what needs to be accomplished in that time frame
  3. A Cleaning Routine
  4. A Business Board where I keep blog post ideas, inspiration, etc.

What makes the process easier is being able to (in each board,) create a list and then create a “card” beneath which is like an item under a list. For example, I created a board called “Business.” I then created lists within this board such as “Things to work on,” “To-do”, or something like that. Then, within these lists, I created “cards,” such as “blog about my favorite resource,” “design graphic for Pinterest,” or something like that.

Does that make any sense? I hope I’ve made myself clear. To give you a better understanding of what this resource is, check out this video. It may help you get an even better idea of what Trello is. (This is NOT me… but this is a great Youtuber who you should definitely check out!) 🙂 🙂 🙂

Cool, huh? The New Year has just begun, so now is the perfect time to try out Trello as many of try to get organized.

And there you have it! Trello is definitely a great resource which I highly recommend you check out. Have you tried Trello or love another free business/blog tool? Be sure to comment below and let me know. I’m always on the lookout for great (and free!) tools. 🙂

Have a great day!

Happy Holidays Blog Party!!!

Hello, everyone! Can you believe that it’s almost Christmas? Happy Holidays! To celebrate the season, I wanted to host a blog party. This is a great way for new bloggers to connect as well as meet already established bloggers.

Blog parties have been a great way for me to meet amazing bloggers and get my own blog out there. It has really helped and so I want to thank all of the people who have done a blog party. All that said, I want to share this wonderful experience with all of you. Enjoy!

Here are some things to think about:

  1. Share a link and tell us about yourself and your blog 🙂
  2. Please don’t leave more than one link at a time. If you want to leave another link, please do that in another comment.
  3. For every link, you leave, try to check someone else out. Spread the love!
  4. If you want, feel free to follow me! 🙂 I love meeting new people and I would love to have you join me here on my blog. I love sharing things with you all!

Okay, everyone! Let’s share some links, meet new people, and have fun! Looking forward to meeting you!

5 Studying Tips For Busy Students

Hello, hello! I’m so glad you stopped by today. Today I wanted to share with you some ways to help improve your study time. Wherever you work, whether at school, at home (home school!), at the library, at college, or anywhere else you might be working on stuff.

It often feels like it’s a never-ending cycle of papers, problems, and reading. The feeling of waking up and doing the same thing over and over again. However, I wanted to share with you some ways to look at your school work, as well as do it, in a manner that encourages a little more enjoyment. After all, as students right now, we are completing this kind of work five days a week (or more,) so why not try and spice it up?

I know it’s not gonna be all sunshine rainbow. Trust me, some days are loooooong,:) but I wanted to share this post hoping that these tips might help brighten up your school routine. I hope you enjoy!

5 Study Tips

1. The reason I recommend only listening to background music is that it is easy to get distracted when lyrics are playing through the headphones. If you are listening to “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” (sorry…it’s almost Christmas, 🙂 but you are reading a history lesson on World War II, how well do you think you are going to remember what you just read after? Instead, I often enjoy listening to upbeat music without lyrics like this playlist on Youtube which I enjoy listening to. The upbeat rhythm keeps me moving at a good pace, and work gets done. Success!

2. Oh yes! I believe that delicious drink, be it coffee, tea, smoothie, milkshake, etc., has some magic in it. I feel like when you are sitting to do work, drinking something yummy makes you feel like you’re at a cafe in a pretty downtown city. I know I sound strange, but whatever you drinks are doing to help us get through our school work, thank a bunch.

3. You know how so many people are creating online courses these days? Do you wish some days that YOU could be the teacher instead of being the student? Well, say hello to the inner teacher inside of you! It’s actually pretty fun to pretend you are teaching an academic subject on a course for someone or that you are in the classroom. Try it!

4. This part is especially fun. This is the time to listen to your favorite song WITH lyrics, grab a drink re-fill, dance, or do whatever makes you happy. Just try to keep it to ten minutes or under so that you’ll still get your work done early.

5. The best part? Rewarding yourself. Do this after you finish your last subject and have checked it off. Some days it might be sitting to watch a show, other days it could be taking a walk with friends. Maybe you’ll decide to go thrift shopping or get your nails done! Whatever the reward, pick it before you work so that you have it to look forward to when you’re done!

There you have it, people! Five tips for the busy student. Now do a happy dance!

The Five Tips:

  1. Listen to BACKGROUND music.
  2. Drink something yummy.
  3. Pretend to teach the subject to someone (or a class).
  4. Take SHORT breaks and do something fun.
  5. Reward yourself.

I truly hope you found this motivational, inspiring, and helpful. If you did, I would love if you’d leave a comment below and let me know. Or, if you have your own tip, feel free to leave that in the comment section as well! I can always fit new tips into my brain. 🙂

Have a wonderful day!
